The 2024 Carson-Newman Summer Music Camps 2024 offer two distinct divisions in one exceptional program — the Drum Major Camp and the Marching Band Leadership Camp. These camps are meticulously crafted to foster the next generation of leaders in school marching bands through a focused improvement in conducting, leadership, musicianship, and marching fundamentals.
The Drum Major Camp, ideal for current and aspiring drum majors, offers a deep dive into the nuances of conducting and effective leadership. Participants will learn from seasoned professionals like Chase Jones and Alex White, both of whom bring a rich background in musical leadership and educational excellence. The camp’s curriculum includes individual help sessions, basic and advanced techniques of conducting, score reading, basic teaching strategies, and the creation of salutes. This comprehensive training will empower drum majors to lead their bands with confidence, enhancing musical precision and performance cohesion in the upcoming season.
Similarly, the Marching Band Leadership Camp tailors its focus towards developing leadership skills for section leaders and band officers. The camp covers critical aspects such as role expectations, group motivation, communication enhancement, personal strengths development, and the crucial role of goal-setting. With interactive methods like role-playing and group discussions, the camp ensures that participants not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them in practical settings, preparing them to motivate and manage their peers effectively.
Both camp divisions aim to instill a sense of confidence, dependability, and integrity among participants, ensuring they are well-equipped to elevate their respective marching bands’ overall performance and morale in the forthcoming seasons. Participating students will return to their bands as more effective leaders, ready to inspire excellence and foster a positive, enthusiastic environment!
